On September 1, the “Rowing against Cancer” regatta took place, in which we as a club have been participating for several years now and have the opportunity to row along and prove our athleticism. For the event, which is organized by the “Living with Cancer” foundation, we were even able to fill two rowing boats with enthusiastic rowers in the adult category this year due to popular demand. This year's regatta took place in Halle on the Peißnitzinsel. The preparations and training to perform as well as possible at the regatta were once again carried out by the dedicated coaches of the Hallescher Ruder-Club e.V..
The aim in recent years was to qualify for the semi-finals via the hopeful heat. The knockout system was slightly modified this year. The first heat led to a division into three performance classes. While the first boat with Silke, Max, Sina and Christian won the first race and entered the quarter-finals in the highest performance class, the second boat with Philipp, Maja, Meike and Dominic slipped into the last performance class. Unfortunately, we had strong opponents in the second boat, which meant that despite a good performance, we came a close last. The aim for both boats was to finish as high as possible, preferably in the final. After a short refreshment break, the second boat returned to the water and qualified for the semi-finals with a brilliant performance. The first boat's subsequent race was close and unfortunately only managed second place, which meant they were eliminated in the quarter-finals.
The second boat was now fully motivated for the semi-final with the aim of reaching the final. To achieve this, we had to win. Unfortunately, we had to settle for second place, half a boat length behind, and narrowly missed out on a place in the final. However, this gave both teams the incentive to continue to give their all and win the regatta for our club in the future.
Many thanks to the Kinderplaneten for making it possible for us to take part!
