On Sunday, 03.09., we as a club team once again had the great opportunity to take part in "Rowing against Cancer". This event has been with us for many years and it gives us the chance to support the work of the foundation "Living with Cancer" and to be active in sports at the same time. This year we were even able to recruit two new rowers for our team, who were ready for the regatta after only three training sessions. The preparatory training sessions were again provided by the Hallescher Ruder-Club e.V., although this year's regatta took place on the Elbe River in Magdeburg. Many thanks for that!
For the big regatta day, we decided to show up in costumes to show presence and intimidate our opponents a bit. This was already the first step - we could not be overlooked and we were remembered.
Unfortunately, we could not achieve our desired performance in the first race due to the unfamiliar boat, the heavier oars than in the training sessions and an unfavorable rhythm. We finished the race in third place out of four boats starting at the same time. Our goal was of course to enter the semifinals, so we had to give everything in the hope race. Despite initial difficulties in this race, we made an impressive comeback, but missed the victory by a tiny quarter boat length. However, this narrowly missed semi-final spurred our team, consisting of Philipp, Maja, Meike and Dominic, on even more. Next year we will give everything to finally win.
A big thank you goes to the Kinderplaneten, who made our participation possible, and to our incredibly motivated team, with whom we will be victorious next year.
